USA v. Arizona
United Press International described this legal action by the federal government as "Under the Supreme Court: Obama's War on Arizona"
Arizona passed a broad immigration reform law to go into effect the end of July 2010. The law was designed to enforce federal immigration law which is not being enforced by the federal government. Very rapidly seven lawsuits were filed against the Arizona law. The last one was filed by the Obama administration. AULDF filed an amicus brief supporting Arizona.
The federal district court judge issued an injunction to stop the enforcement of key parts of the law. Arizona immediately appealed to the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. The case moved rapidly. It was argued November 1, 2010 and by April 12, 2011 the appeals court ruled against Arizona and upheld the injunction.
Arizona appealed to the Supreme Court of the United States. The AULDF is preparing an Amicus brief to support Arizona's appeal.
